[ She takes a step back, reaching up for her sunglasses and hauling them back over her eyes. She doesn't want to argue this with someone who's lent a hand in the search for Renee. She owes her that much. ]
Are we talking the break up between the two big action movie stars, the news about the Russian spies and the debates over why they're not being given a fair trial, or ... the murders?
[Her voice, as she spoke all of that, went from being rather light to ... very somber.]
[He stops, frustrated, trying to think of how to put this. Why is this his life? The question of the hour, the month, the year, and the rest of his existence.]
Kate. Until I get to the bottom of this, avoid him at all costs. Do not engage him. If he comes around at all, and I'm not there, you need to call me right away and do not let him in. And, if you can't...keep as much distance between you as you can at all times.
Kate, I have faith in you. You're Hawkeye. I have no doubt you earned that beyond a shadow of a doubt.
[Just in case she needed to hear that.]
But I hadn't- I had hoped the situation wasn't going to escalate. I thought he might be like Melvin Potter. He thinks he got better. [He'd promised Matt he wouldn't interfere in his life.] And he's desperate for my approval. I don't know if he even knows what he did. But I'm not taking any chances.
I'll see what I can do about getting in there tonight, and if that fails, I'll bring in a third party. She's older, more experienced than both of us. She'll be able to help in that arena.
