[ Kid was Ported out for the second half of April and so missed the whole dragons and zombies thing. ]
Kate, I apologize for my absence. The Porter's seen fit to return me, but that doesn't excuse my not being here to help during... everything that's occurred.
[ It actually would reasonably excuse it, but Kid is unreasonably hard on himself, knowing now that people were killed by the plague or whatever it was, not counting the damned dragon attack. ]
It was definitely hitting everyone. Dragons, but who goes out to fight a dragon when they're told to be in quarantine? I really dropped the ball on that one.
His name is Springsteen!
Do you know what a Springsteen is? Do you have Bruce in your world?
I do actually have water arrows, but I don't want to make Hank remake them. I probably could have helped. Maybe. But who wants to see zombie Kate? (Hint: I have. It sucked.)
[That's actually part of why she hadn't been out there. AU versions of herself becoming a reality suck.
But levity. Right.]
And you have a friend named Soul? Is that an ego thing or a weird parents thing?
If you became a zombie, I'd have to offer you a teaching position, just to keep with tradition.
His name is actually Soul, yes. Soul Evans, although he goes by Soul "Eater"-- something of a Weapon inside joke. He's a very accomplished musician, much as he prefers to downplay his skill.
Certain people are born with a specific gene that allows them to transform into various types of weaponry. Bladed are the most common, then blunt, then projectile. The skill usually manifests in their early teens, although it can happen earlier. Typically, the ability gets passed down along familial lines, as does that of a Meister, who are able to wield them. The two form a partnership, which increases their strengths. Any Weapon can enroll in Shibusen, where they learn to control their power, so as not to accidentally hurt themselves or others, and any Meister can enroll with their aim of finding their Weapon partner.
[ There's a pause here, and then he resumes typing. ]
Someone previously asked me if the term Weapon were meant to be derogatory, and I can assure you it is not. Weapons, Meisters, they're all equally human. The abilities, in my world, are no different than someone having an exceptional skill at anything.
[ Kid is glad that Kate understands. He doesn't miss them because they're his Weapons, but because they're his partners and closest friends. They're the ones that know him the best, aside from his father. ]
Partenrs are partners, yes. Although it's occasionally nice not to need to worry about ammunition.
[ Also because the shots from Liz and Patty aren't lethal, unless he wishes them to be. That's the main reason he doesn't carry replacement guns, while he's here. He can fight hand to hand just as well. Not that he doesn't trust his aim even with conventional firearms, but it's just more practical. ]
Indeed. They fire shots made of compressed soul wavelength. It surprised me, the first time I saw it.
Certainly there are. All types of bows -- long, recurve, even crossbow. In fact, one of Father's Death Scythes, named Azusa Yumi, is a type of Weapon called a gunbow.

I was kind of a sitting duck with this incident, anyway. Quarantine meant hang out with my dog ... a lot ...
Being a normal human is tricky that way.
Re: text;
From what I've understood of the virus, it wasn't just affecting "normal" humans.
I didn't know you had a dog.

[ A touch of levity, which they could probably all use lately. ]
Yes, we have Bruce Springsteen in my world too. I imagine rock and roll would be very different if we didn't, and my friend, Soul, would be appalled.
It's a good name for a dog, though.
[ Yeah, his world has some unusual naming conventions, and that's the more normal part of his world. That, and Bruce Springsteen, apparently. ]

Can you explain the whole weapon thing again?

[ It's not hard to determine the pride in his voice at his partners' skills, even over text. ]
I've practiced a little with regular firearms since being here, but it isn't the same.

Are there any archer meisters back in your world? You know, along those same lines.

Sounds a bit like overkill.
